Getting set for the Black Friday deals

I know talking about black Friday deals on a blog that is mostly about our debt-free journey may seem a little odd, but stay with me on this.

We love Christmas at our house, it is my favourite time of the year. Even though we are on our journey, it doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy the Christmas period and treat our nearest and dearest. What it does mean is we are going to do it in a savvy way! If you are looking to make the most of the Black Friday deals, here are my top tips to make sure you stay on track.

  1. Write a list – and check it twice?! Just kidding. You do however need to write yourself a list, you need to know exactly what you are looking for in the deals. For us, we wrote who we had left to buy for and a few suggestions for each of them. This way we have some flexibility in what we are looking for.
  2. Know the price of the items you are looking to buy – Many stores have been known to hike the prices around Black Friday then reduce them back to the original prices so it looks like a good deal. Before you head into the sales, make sure you know how much things should cost so you don’t get caught up in the “not so good” deals.
  3. Use cashback sites – I know I go on about this all the time but please make sure you use cashback if they are available for the stores you are shopping on. Even if you only get a few pounds back each sale, something is better than nothing. You can read my post on how to make the most of cashback sites here.
  4. Don’t be sucked into deals – There are some great deals up now and lots of things that may be tempting you to buy, it is really hard when you are sticking to a list not to deviate but you have to be firm. Once you give in to temptation, you will find you have spent way more than planned without even trying.
  5. Be kind to yourself – This year has been tough for everyone, if you sneak a little treat into your online basket, don’t feel too bad. Just make sure you are treating yourself to things you can actually afford. You don’t want to be paying for this Christmas over to course of 2021.

Hopefully, some of these tips may help you out this Christmas, even if it is just taking a little pressure off the build-up. Just remember that Christmas is not all about the gifts or the food, it is about the memories you create.
