We’ve made no secret of our plans to retire early. In fact for us, the earlier the better. We know that with retirement, there will be an element of being savvy to ensure our money stretches. However, there are a few things that have not yet been taken into account.
With retirement, we are hoping comes good health. This is not a given though and there is a chance that although we have retired we may not have perfect health forever. Knowing this has allowed us to think about saving for a fallback fund. The idea of this fund is to allow us to maintain our independence whilst still enjoying retirement for as long as we can.
This isn’t a morbid pot of money though, it is there to assist with our living with things such as stairlifts to adapt our home or even shower adjustments to make hygiene a little easier. Age UK Mobility site is a great starting point to help us plan what we may potentially need. It will allow us to maintain our independence.
In an ideal world, we will be as fit as a fiddle and fully independent for a long time. But, we all know that is not how life always goes. With this planning done, we at least know there will be a chance for us to live a life peacefully in the country for a little longer.
Thinking about this though has also got me thinking a lot more about location. Although we want peace and beautiful views, I don’t think living in the sticks completely isolated is the best way to go. If we need any assistance or our mobility is not as good as it is now, I want to still be able to enjoy where we live with minimal effort. Do you plan ahead?
