Earning money back with supermarket cashback apps

Spending money in supermarkets is something we all do on a monthly basis, however, are you earning money back with supermarket cashback apps? If the answer is no then you are missing out on some free cash.

The first thing to make a note of those with all of these apps is you may find that some weeks there are items that are not really suitable for you, however, for a few minutes of your time before you go shopping it is worth checking out what they have on offer to see if you can get some cash back on the items you are picking up. Lots of times people use the cashback apps to purchase items for local food banks and charities should they not be suitable for them which is a great idea if you can afford to do this.

It is really important that you look at the app to see exactly what you are buying and where you are buying from as some of the items are specific to certain supermarkets. It is usually only offered in the bigger supermarkets (Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and the Co-op) so this is another thing to consider. You will want to be careful when picking the items up, for example, the drinks on offer may be on a specific size bottle, if you buy the wrong one the deal will not be honoured.

Lots of these apps have a scanning feature that allows you to scan the items to ensure you have a valid item. It is also recommended that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase until you have received your payout.

Shopmium – This is my favourite app as it is just so simple to use and I have found it has better offers for us on it. They offer a referral scheme too, so for every friend you refer you get a bonus credit added to your account, normally offering your friends a little incentive too when they sign up. Now although you can’t withdraw this credit as cash, you can use it towards a cashback item. So for example, if an item is £3.00 and you get £1.50 cashback, you can use the additional bonus towards the rest of the item which means the item would be free. If you are after a FREE can of Pringles, you can sign up for the app using our code AEHHCCUT

Clicksnap – I am a huge fan of Quidco (full post on cashback here) and this app is their cashback app for in-store purchases.  Like the other apps, they update their offers frequently for you to make the most of your weekly shop. This one does not have a referral scheme however they have been known to do some good offers throughout the years.

Checkoutsmart – This app is owned by the same people that own Clicksnap and Quidco, however, don’t let that put you off. They also have different offers throughout the week and if you get a separate receipt for an item that is on both Clicksnap and Checkoutsmart you should be able to claim it both times. Again no referral scheme for this one but you should be able to save some money alongside the other ones.

I don’t like the thought of paying more money for things than we need to or if there is a chance to get some cashback on what we are purchasing. These cashback apps might not be suitable every week however, the time it takes to just check can save us a little bit of money each month. After all, if you look after the pennies, it will look after the pounds!
